Poplar Hill Road Kitchen Addition & Renovation
Greenleaf partnered with SM&P Architects and CustomFit Kitchens to complete a transformative kitchen addition and renovation in Baltimore’s Poplar Hill neighborhood.
The project began with a complex structural challenge: creating a 22-foot opening in the home’s rear masonry wall while supporting the slate mansard roof and the second floor above. To make it happen, our team installed a steel beam to span the full width of the opening and constructed a seamless addition that now houses a new kitchen, mudroom, and walk-in pantry.
A Modern, Light-Filled Kitchen
The finished kitchen balances modern design with natural materials, featuring:
- Custom bleached walnut cabinetry and fluted island millwork
- Marvin windows and a skylight, inviting natural light throughout the space
- Site-finished oak flooring for warmth and timeless appeal
- A statement feature wall clad in leathered Taj Mahal quartzite, paired with floating quartzite shelves complete with integrated lighting
Thoughtful Details Inside and Out
The addition includes a mudroom with practical storage, and a walk-in pantry designed for everyday ease. Outside, the space is finished with bluestone and brick steps, architectural metalwork, and black metal roofing and gutters that match the home’s historic charm.
The exterior also features hand-oiled Garapa hardwood tongue-and-groove siding, meticulously installed over a rainscreen system by Greenleaf carpenters.
As day turns to night, architectural lighting from Visual Comfort highlights the textures and craftsmanship of both the kitchen and exterior, creating an inviting and refined ambiance.
This project was a rewarding challenge that turned out to be a wonderful space that feels intentional, beautifully crafted, and built to last.
