Structural
We handle complex structural work with the same care and precision we bring to every part of a renovation. Whether we’re executing work outlined in an engineer’s report or bringing in our own trusted structural engineer to identify and solve issues, we approach each project with a deep understanding of how homes are built—and how they age.
From removing load-bearing walls and expanding door or window openings, to repairing structural masonry, installing engineered wood and steel beams, or underpinning a foundation, we help homeowners strengthen and reimagine their homes. We also repair and rebuild porches, retaining walls, and other essential structural elements, always with lasting integrity in mind.
This whole-house renovation was a successful collaboration of design and construction between Greenleaf craftsmen and Analogue Design, with interior design and decorating by the client. We upgraded almost every room in this home, including an expanded kitchen, built-in cabinetry, a basement renovation, three bathroom renovations, four bedrooms, an office, a laundry and mudroom, and a […]
This split-level home on Old Court Rd. was built in the 1950s and featured state-of-the-art technology of that time period. The house was heated by radiant water pipes in the floors and plaster ceilings, and the lighting was run through low-voltage transformers. 60 years later as those systems started to fail, our craftsmen rewired the […]
How do you develop a beautiful palette in a small space? This bathroom features a more traditional design with Carrara marble subway tile and mosaic black and white marble flooring. The beadboard, base moulding, and chair rail were custom-milled from composite moulding by our craftsmen to provide a durable and pleasing backdrop for the walls. […]

As an engineer, I truly appreciated Greenleaf’s attention to detail, their understanding of construction theory, and their willingness to take the time to do it right. And the dog? Well, I think he is still heartbroken over the absence of the crew that was willing to throw the Frisbee for him.

I cannot say enough good things about Greenleaf, George and Derrick. They were a complete pleasure to work with from start to finish. Extremely responsive, very honest and professional, and fantastic work. They kept to the schedule, and I really appreciated their input on several decisions – what was worth spending money on and where we could save costs. I was sad when the job was over that we wouldn’t get to see them anymore! I will absolutely use them for any future renovations, and strongly recommend them without reservation.

We recently completed a renovation of the back wing of our home with Greenleaf, and we are thrilled with the results. The renovation process is difficult under any circumstances, especially when you are living in the house, but Randy, our lead carpenter, took very good care of us and was extremely patient even when we were frustrated. Greenleaf does meticulous work, and our designer, Marci Lief, was terrifically creative, transforming some difficult spaces into gems.

Greenleaf replaced our large, 2-story city deck with a very attractive, sturdy, composite deck. Every step was done professionally, from an initial thorough meeting with their team to plan the process with our lifestyle in mind and continued with excellent work habits of the carpenters and supervisors. The site was left neat and clean each day, and work commenced and was completed on schedule. I would recommend them for any home improvement project.

George Brown and his team did an exceptional job, exceeding our expectations. Our project manager, Derrick, was professional, responsive, and a pleasure to work with. Casey, our lead carpenter, was meticulous, down to the last detail. We appreciated the integrity and skill demonstrated by the entire team. We also were impressed with the creativity they brought to the project and that they worked hard to keep the scope within our budget. Highly recommended!

FAQ
It depends on the scale of the renovation, what spaces are affected, and your personal situation. We are well accustomed to working in occupied homes, containing our work within safe barriers, minimizing disruption as much as possible, and helping set up accommodations such as a temporary kitchen space.
We get that the job duration is a key consideration for our clients. We begin discussing an estimated duration early in the process and continue that conversation through regular updates throughout the project. In addition, we work hard well before we start our physical work on site to arrange permits, materials, and coordinate our trade partners so that once we do start, we are able to move through the project as efficiently as possible.
Yes! This comprises two categories: miscellaneous projects on your list and long-term plans for the house. Resolving miscellaneous projects is a key part of our commitment to transforming your experience of your home. Keeping long-term goals and projects in mind helps us to plan our work now to maximize the efficiency of those long-term projects. It’s helpful for us to know about your additional plans and projects early in our process so that we can plan our work most efficiently.
Yes, lots. Since 2007, a large portion of our work has been in older and historic homes in the Baltimore area. Our team is very experienced with plaster, irregular framing, antiquated wiring (e.g., knob and tube), tile mortar beds, historic masonry, wood windows, custom trim, and other challenges of older homes. Creative problem solving is often needed to integrate modern systems and building code with historic construction and character.
We work in Baltimore City and Baltimore County to the north of the City.
Yes, it’s just a cost/benefit calculation. We move/remove walls in many of our projects, working with a structural engineer and installing structural wood and steel members in wood and masonry walls.
